SCORPIONS Guitarist Comments On MICHAEL SCHENKER's Disastrous ROCK & BLUES Performance
July 30, 2007A new audio interview with SCORPIONS guitarist Matthias Jabs has been posted online at this location. The interview was carried out by Baconmusic's James Allman before the SCORPIONS' performance at Manchester Carling Apollo Sunday night (July 29). During the interview, Jabs was asked about Michael Schenker's disastrous performance at the Rock & Blues Custom Show the previous evening. A transcript of the Schenker-related portion of the interview follows:
Q: Michael Schenker was in a really bad way during the set and received a very poor reception from the crowd. Has anyone suggested to him that it's time to hang up his guitar?
Jabs: I only heard it from the dressing room. It sounded pretty awful. He didn't even know if he was coming. He's in one of his many phases of "I drink, I disappear." He doesn't know what he does. In a way we could say it's his problem, but we have his older brother [Rudolf Schenker, SCORPIONS guitarist] next door and if he's away, he's on the phone with him if he's reachable. I mean, it's a shame. It's his life, it's his career, and obviously, he's part of our show as well, to a certain extent. And guess what? We can't do it again. We weren't even sure if he was coming today, so we were trying to cover it by playing more songs, but that's unprofessional — don't wanna deal with that every day."
